  • Account Information: Google account ID, email address, display name, and profile photo (via Google OAuth)
  • Learning Content: Flashcards, decks, images, documents you upload for AI analysis
  • Study Data: Review history, FSRS scheduling data, quiz results, mastery levels, and learning statistics
  • Social Data: Friend connections, family group memberships, invite codes, and quiz battle results
  • Device Information: Device type, OS version, app version, and FCM push token for notifications
  • Usage Data: App usage patterns, feature interactions, and study session duration

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the RiplQ spaced repetition learning service
  • To process your subscription payments (Free, Pro, Pro Plus plans)
  • To send study reminders, quiz battle invitations, and family notifications via FCM
  • To generate flashcards and quizzes from your uploaded content using Google Gemini AI
  • To schedule reviews using the FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) algorithm
  • To enable social features: friend connections, family groups, and quiz battles
  • To track your learning progress and mastery levels
  • To improve our app features and user experience

3. AI Content Processing

When you upload images or documents for flashcard generation:

  • Content is sent to Google Gemini AI for analysis
  • AI generates flashcards, questions, and answers from your content
  • Original uploaded content is stored securely and can be deleted at any time
  • AI-generated content is associated with your account
  • This feature is optional and can be disabled in settings

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on our PostgreSQL servers with the following protections:

  • Industry-standard TLS/SSL encryption for data in transit
  • Encrypted storage for sensitive data at rest
  • Study data is cached locally on your device for offline access
  • Regular backups with point-in-time recovery
  • Access controls and authentication required for all API endpoints

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Data is shared only in these cases:

  • Family Groups: Progress and quiz results are shared with family members you explicitly invite
  • Friends: Quiz battle results are shared with friends you connect with
  • Analytics: Anonymized, aggregated data may be used for analytics
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights

6. Third-Party Services

  • Google OAuth: Authentication and account creation
  • Stripe: Subscription payment processing (Pro, Pro Plus plans)
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Push notifications for study reminders, friend requests, family invites, and quiz battles
  • Google Gemini AI: Content analysis for flashcard generation (optional)
  • PostgreSQL: Secure database storage

7. Your Rights & Controls

  • Access: View all your data in the app (decks, cards, progress, friends, family)
  • Export: Export your flashcards and study data
  • Delete Account: Permanently delete your account and all data from Settings
  • Disable Notifications: Turn off push notifications at any time in device settings
  • Leave Family Group: Remove yourself from family groups
  • Remove Friends: Disconnect from friends in the app
  • Opt-out of AI: Disable AI content analysis features

8. Children's Privacy

RiplQ is designed for learners of all ages. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. Parents can manage their children's accounts through the family group feature, which allows parents to:

  • Create and manage family groups
  • Invite family members via invite codes
  • Monitor children's learning progress
  • Remove members from the family group

9. Data Retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion:

  • All personal data is permanently removed within 30 days
  • Family group memberships are terminated
  • Friend connections are removed
  • AI-generated content is deleted
  • Study history and progress data are permanently erased

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Significant changes will be notified via:

  • In-app notification
  • Email to your registered address
  • App update release notes

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, RIPLQ DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT
  • WARRANTIES THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
  • WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF ANY CONTENT, DATA, OR INFORMATION PROVIDED
  • WARRANTIES THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT (FLASHCARDS, QUIZZES) WILL BE ACCURATE OR APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR NEEDS
  • WARRANTIES REGARDING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FSRS ALGORITHM OR ANY LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • WARRANTIES THAT YOUR DATA WILL BE STORED SECURELY OR THAT DATA LOSS WILL NOT OCCUR

YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL RIPLQ, ITS FOUNDERS, DEVELOPERS, EMPLOYEES, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY:

  • DIRECT DAMAGES: Including but not limited to loss of data, learning progress, subscription fees, or costs of procurement of substitute services
  • INDIRECT DAMAGES: Including but not limited to incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • LOSS OF PROFITS: Revenue, business, or anticipated savings
  • LOSS OF DATA: Including flashcards, study history, progress, or any user-generated content
  • LOSS OF LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES: Including missed reviews, failed exams, or educational setbacks
  • THIRD-PARTY CLAIMS: Including claims arising from your use of the Service or violation of these terms

THIS LIMITATION APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY ON WHICH THE CLAIM IS BASED (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE) AND EVEN IF RIPLQ HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

MAXIMUM LIABILITY: IN NO EVENT SHALL RIPLQ'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU TO RIPLQ IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100 USD), WHICHEVER IS LESS.

13. Indemnification

YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND, AND HOLD HARMLESS RIPLQ, ITS FOUNDERS, DEVELOPERS, EMPLOYEES, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LOSSES, DAMAGES, COSTS, AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING REASONABLE ATTORNEYS' FEES) ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO:

  • YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE
  • YOUR VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS OR ANY APPLICABLE LAWS
  • YOUR CONTENT (INCLUDING FLASHCARDS, IMAGES, DOCUMENTS YOU UPLOAD)
  • YOUR INFRINGEMENT OF ANY THIRD PARTY'S RIGHTS (INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, PRIVACY, OR OTHER RIGHTS)
  • ANY DISPUTES BETWEEN YOU AND OTHER USERS OF THE SERVICE

14. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

THE SERVICE INCLUDES AI-POWERED FEATURES THAT GENERATE CONTENT USING GOOGLE GEMINI AI. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT:

  • AI-GENERATED CONTENT (FLASHCARDS, QUIZZES, ANSWERS) MAY CONTAIN ERRORS, INACCURACIES, OR INAPPROPRIATE MATERIAL
  • RIPLQ DOES NOT REVIEW, VERIFY, OR ENDORSE AI-GENERATED CONTENT
  • YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR REVIEWING AND VALIDATING AI-GENERATED CONTENT BEFORE USE
  • AI-GENERATED CONTENT SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON FOR CRITICAL DECISIONS, MEDICAL ADVICE, LEGAL ADVICE, FINANCIAL ADVICE, OR EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATION
